Girl’s Basketball Championship Scheduled for 3:00 AM on Sunday Morning
April 9, 2019
With the excitement surrounding the Ignati-
us Varsity Girls’ Basketball team’s success this year, Ignatians everywhere are delighted to hear that the girls’ basketball championship game has been scheduled for 3 A.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Charity Grammar School gym in Mattoon, IL, only 160 miles outside of the city.
The move comes after calls for more accessible and advertised female sports, and students and athletes alike are expressing their support. This move is exactly what we needed–I can tell that the school is really trying to show that our games are just as important as the Boys’ Varsity,” said Margaret Fleming, a senior basketball player at St. Ignatius. “Sure, the guys get to play at a college stadium on Friday night, but we’re sure that this is scheduled to draw an equal crowd!” OLPC’s gym does not quite boast the seven thousand seating capacity of Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena, but it can seat 143 adults on its recently redone floor after a small rennovation. As for food, OLPC boasts three types of chips (Original Sun Chips, Cheetos, and Lays Classic) and lukewarm orange Gatorade.
The school will not be arranging shuttles to or from the game, so get your carpools ready and have $15 handy for the tickets (sold by Linda and Helen at the concessions stand). We hope to see an energetic student body ready to cheer on our girls!
