From fishing on the exotic Alaska coast to soaking in the sun on the beaches of the Philippines, Saint Ignatius students made the most of their summer adventures. Whether near or far, these globetrotters took their grad-at-grad values with them, bringing home not just memories but a deeper connection to the world around them. Here are some of their most unforgettable journeys.
Senior Jackson Becker went halfway around the world to the Philippines. For two weeks, Becker spent time with his family, immersing himself with rich culture and beautiful beaches.
“ I explored the historical district, the natural beaches, and tried new food,” said Jackson. “I was able to meet up with my family about halfway through the vacation. I was able to try lumpia and sinigang!” It sounds like he had a great time!
Freshman Samantha Steinlauf’s summer was all to rave about at her sleepaway camp in Maine, where she stayed for five weeks. “The lobster was really good,” she said. Steinlauf highly recommended Maine for the beautiful northeastern nature and especially the lobster.
Caitlin Sedar, a Sophomore, went about as far as she could while remaining in America, all the way to Alaska! She spent ten days in the state and also went on a cruise. She explored, “the true power of nature and the vast wilderness.” If you are interested in going to Alaska, Caitlin has some encouraging words to say, “I would absolutely recommend this location to others!”
How about two for one! Gabriel Paner, a junior, had two very exciting vacations this year, visiting family in Lithuania and hiking in Iceland. “I would recommend Iceland, it’s fun, and Lithuania is also good,” he said. He enjoyed his time hiking with his Dad, as well as enjoying the clam stew, “Iceland has really good clam stew.”
Teddy Chong, a Senior, spent part of his summer on college tours in Colorado. He said he was able to “tour the Air Force academy” and also said that he would recommend this location for college tours and vacations. He added that, “with the higher elevation, it was more difficult to breathe.”
Semeon Alazar, a Senior, spent part of his summer in Los Angeles, California. He visited family and went to Disneyland. He was able to try In-n-Out, which he said he enjoyed. You can find Semeon at In-n-Out eating a burger when in California. He recommended this location to others, saying, “California has really nice weather, I would recommend it.”
Overall, students at Saint Ignatius have gone to places near and far, but nevertheless keep their grad at grad values in mind when traveling, literally, “setting the world on fire.”
