In order to ensure safe and efficient parking and contain the after school rush, upper class students who park in the Student Lot after and before school need to learn and follow parking instructions.
As the school year begins the Saint Ignatius students and their passengers who purchased a parking spot in the school’s student parking lot on the west side of campus should learn the rules of the lot; as only 214 students have the privilege to park in the lot; around 90% being seniors.
According to the Saint Ignatius Student Handbook the rules are as follows:
- It is important that students display their parking permit on the bottom right hand corner of the dashboard, since the lot is strictly for students and staff of Saint Ignatius.
- Failure to display a permit and illegal parking/ parking in a spot that is not your own may lead to your vehicle being towed.
- Students should be cautious when leaving valuables in their cars; as Saint Ignatius is not liable for theft or damage of the vehicles.
- Students should not be driving or sitting in cars during the school day or loitering around the lot.
- Reckless driving on campus will lead to disciplinary action.
- There are two entrances for the lot: one on Racine and the other on Roosevelt.
- No students should be parking in the lot on May Street. Students who did not purchase a spot may not park in the student lot and should find parking elsewhere, at their own risk.
Ignatius senior Megan Winters said, “It is very crowded coming out of there right when school ends. It often takes me 20 minutes just to get out of there.”
Keeping these rules in mind can help limit the chaos and stress of the parking lot, prioritize students’ safety, and boost efficiency.
