Saint Ignatius College Prep junior Kingsley Goldman committed to play Division I field hockey at the University of Michigan, a choice that highlights her dedication as a four-year varsity athlete and two-year captain. She announced her decision in the fall of 2024.
The first time Goldman picked up a field hockey stick she was in second grade, but the sport was in her blood as her grandmother played field hockey in high school. For Goldman, field hockey has always been more than a sport- it is a lifelong passion tied with a family bond.
As a four-year varsity player for Saint Ignatius, Goldman played alongside many talented athletes, but her talent is often what gets noticed.
“It’s been really fun over the past couple of years to play with someone at such a high level—especially learning the sport many years after her, just watching her play, and learning a lot from her.” Teammate Fallon Urquhart said. While the journey has been long, the unwavering amount of support Goldman has had is undeniable.
“I realized I wanted to play at the collegiate level when I saw some of my teammates’ older siblings committing to play D1,” Goldman was in 8th grade at the time.
Numerous scholarship offers created an intense decision making process for Goldman. The process felt overwhelming at times and stretched on for months. Eventually, she selected the University of Michigan.
“I love the town, and I think it’s a great community,” Goldman said after a visit to Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan. “ I am looking forward to meeting other athletes at the University of Michigan and being a part of the fun community.”
From the moment she picked up a stick in second grade—following in the footsteps of her grandmother—to her commitment to Michigan, Goldman’s story reflects years of dedication and passion for field hockey. “I’m so excited about my time at Michigan,” Goldman said in closing.
The Wolfpack finished 12-6-1 last year and hope to build on that record, aiming to compete for a sectional title this season. They have opened the 2025 campaign with a 4-2 start.
