The Saint Ignatius baseball team has started preseason training with a renewed determination, hoping to build off of last year’s season aiming to take a major leap forward this upcoming spring season.
The team has fully transitioned to third year manager Coach Joel Southern and has adjusted to his coaching style. The team has won at least one play off game in the last two years, including the 2024 season where they won a regional title and also last season where they finished just 12-24 overall and only won one game in the CCL-Blue but still managed to squeak out a win in the first round of the playoffs.
“It’s really important to me and especially the other seniors on the team that we are able to make a deep run into the postseason this year knowing that this is our last crack at it.” said Senior Ryan Sexton.
After multiple seasons in the CCL-Blue division the team has been moved back down to the CCL-White division where their schedule will feature many different teams that were not featured on their schedule in recent years. This will give the team an opportunity to play teams that they feel really confident about beating and will definitely make it interesting to see how the team responds in an attempt to make a deep run into the playoffs.
Sexton said, “It is disappointing being moved down a division but we’re looking at the positives and I’m really excited to see what type of noise we can make in the CCL-White division this upcoming season.”
Sexton, one of the team’s leaders, will have a crucial role to help make sure his team is ready to go and is at their best by the time the regular season comes around.
