The Saint Ignatius Lacrosse team looks to carry their momentum from last year into the 2026 season. After finishing last year with a 12-5 record, according to MaxPreps, the Wolfpack were a top 15 team with hopes to win state. After a loss in the state semifinals, the Wolfpack ended the season earlier than they hoped.
This year, the Wolfpack return with the goal to win state this year. The lacrosse team has firepower, led by senior Max Meyer and senior Grayson Rizzuti.
“We weren’t satisfied with the final four last year, we know we have the talent to win state and that’s our goal this year,” Meyer said. Meyer is a key member of the team’s defenseman and also focused on stepping into a leadership role with a roster filled with underclassmen. With several freshman and sophomores expected to make the team this spring, Meyer said mentorship will be just as important as his performance.
“We have lots of young guys on our team. Freshman year, I had a great mentor that taught me the team system and plays. I want to be that role model for the younger guys this year and leave the program better than it was when I started,” Meyer said.
Head coach, Seth Molek, and teammates are counting on senior leadership as the Wolfpack prepare for a competitive schedule.
Aftera trip to the state semifinals, expectations are high. The team’s experience in close postseason games is something players believe will give them an edge throughout the year,
In addition to Meyer, classmate Rizzuti will help lead the Wolfpack to another top 15 season.
Rizzuti takes faceoffs for the Wolfpack and is a three year varsity player.
“My favorite part of being a FOGO is that everyone on the bench is loud and hypes me up. They all know how important it is to have possession so I love when my teammates yell my nickname and support me when I am taking the faceoff,” Rizzuti said.
Rizzuti is excited for his senior year and has high hopes that the Wolfpack will do better than they did last year.
Meyer wants to make the most of his senior year on the field, but looking ahead to college, he remains undecided about where his athletic future will take him.
“I love lacrosse and want to play for as long as I can, but balancing it with hockey is hard. I want to play a sport in college, but I still have to think about it and what my college career will look like,” Meyer said. Meyer wants to attend Indiana University with plans to study at the business school.
“Winning state this year would really cap off my Ignatius lacrosse career. I have made so many memories and had so much fun on the field, but there is still plenty of work to do to achieve our goal,” Meyer said.
