There is only one barrier between Christmas break, the most wonderful time of the year, and the students of Saint Ignatius College prep: Finals! First semester finals are approaching quickly on December 16-19.
FINAL SCHEDULE
With the current schedule, students will have 1-2 finals per day.
Tuesday, December 16: A, B, and I period finals
Wednesday, December 17: C and D period finals.
Thursday, December 18: E and F period finals
Friday, December 19: G and H period finals
Students may switch a final if they have three in one day and for questions, concerns or scheduling issues students are encouraged to contact the Prefect’s office.
Additionally there are a few cases where some specific classes will take their final the week prior to finals week.
PREPARING FOR FINALS
“I usually just like to use Quizlet and review old notes or tests,” says senior Gabby Hinton, “My biggest advice is to just study throughout [the semester.]”
The upperclassmen have gone through trial and error to find what study techniques and routines work best for them. Some students utilize study guides, others make quizlets, some use repetition, and while it is not recommended by most, some might even cram the night prior.
Senior Hazel Krauss has utilized resources open to the public to limit distractions. “I go to Starbucks to study and just sit there for hours and retrace my notes [and] make sure to take breaks in between because it could be a lot.”
According to Point Loma Nazarene University here are 10 study tips to help ease the anxiety and stress of finals week:
- avoid the urge to procrastinate
- get some sleep
- find a space conducive to studying
- create a playlist to help you focus
- get rid of distracting devices
- mix study methods
- write out peace test questions
- work with a study group
- take breaks
- maintain a healthy diet
When it comes to preparing for tests, AP Psychology teacher Mr. Morrow has some timeless advice: “Get some sleep!”
